On September 1, on the occasion of Knowledge and Literacy Day, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan, at the invitation of Armen Muradyan, Rector of Yerevan Mkhitar Heratsi State Medical University (YSMU), visited YSMU’s “Heratsi” High School and attended the event marking the start of the academic year.

It should be recalled that, within the framework of a claim for the protection of state interests, the Prosecutor’s Office examined the cadastral file concerning a 555 sq. m. area that had belonged to YSMU’s “Heratsi” High School but had been privatized 19 years ago in violation of the law, and filed a claim for the protection of state interests with the competent court. On August 27, 2026, with the aim of returning the area to the Republic of Armenia, the Prosecutor’s Office submitted a settlement agreement to the court for approval, following its approval by the court and entry into legal force a few days later, the area will be returned to the “Heratsi” High School.

Armen Muradyan, Rector of Yerevan Mkhitar Heratsi State Medical University, congratulated the students and teachers on September 1 and noted: “Your dreams can come true if they are grounded in systematic knowledge, discipline, daily hard work, and the dedication of committed teachers. Your education is of great importance to our state. The Government completely reconstructed this educational complex, preserving the building’s facade so that we know that we have a history, that we have roots, and that we have teachers. Today, the state has once again undertaken to restore the integrity of this complex. Our honored guest is Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan, through the efforts of the Prosecutor’s Office, the institution she heads, the integrity of the “Heratsi” High School has been restored. I congratulate all of us, because in one month the entire area of the school will have been restored, something we have been striving for over a long period of time.”

Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan congratulated the students on the start of the new academic year and spoke not only about the importance of knowledge, but also about the work carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office in the area of protecting state interests, citing as an example the resolution of the long-standing legal dispute over the area adjacent to the “Heratsi” High School.

Anna Vardapetyan noted that although medicine and law may at first glance seem like unrelated professions, in reality, both deal with people.

“Some of you are future doctors, and law may seem like a very distant profession to you, but in reality, our professions are very similar: we both deal with people,” the Prosecutor General said.

Addressing the legal issue concerning the area adjacent to the school, Anna Vardapetyan noted that years ago the aforementioned area had been acquired by a private individual, which had resulted in a complex legal situation: the individual had expectations arising from the transaction, while the school and the student community had their own expectations. “While studying the issue, it was often said that the legal dispute was impossible to resolve. Today, I am pleased to state that the young prosecutors achieved what everyone had said was impossible. And how did they do it? They did it because they had knowledge,” emphasized Anna Vardapetyan, adding that today, when we speak about knowledge, no one explains what knowledge means; they only say, “Study.”

“I say: acquire knowledge. Of course, study, study what is necessary and what the school provides, but once you have reached the stage of formal education, acquire knowledge from all the sources that are available today. And use the knowledge you have acquired for the benefit of others, because we find our value through one another. I would not be standing here today if I did not have behind me a system comprising more than 700 people, which has carried out work whose results and benefits you will enjoy,” the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia noted, and, quoting Rector Muradyan, added: “The world will remain standing as long as each of us has a teacher.”
