At the initiative of Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, a professional discussion was held today at the Legal Laboratory operating within the administrative building of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia, with the participation of Armenui Amy Ashvanian, Los Angeles County Superior Court  Judge and a member of the Armenian Bar Association.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prosecutors General of the Republic of Armenia, heads of departments of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Prosecutor of Yerevan City, advisors and assistants to the Prosecutor General, as well as representatives of the Legal Department of the Staff of the Prosecutor’s Office.

The professional dialogue focused on the topic “Effective Advocacy of the Prosecution’s Case in Court: U.S. and Armenian Experience.”

In her welcoming remarks, Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan emphasized the importance of holding professional dialogues in this format and highlighted the significance of exchanging professional experience between different legal systems in the context of enhancing the effectiveness of prosecutorial activities.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Armenui Amy Ashvanian presented the approaches applied in the United States, particularly in the State of California, regarding the presentation and advocacy of the prosecution’s case and the role of the prosecutor in judicial proceedings.

During the discussion, which also included a question-and-answer session, participants addressed the specific features of the professional work of prosecutors within the Armenian and U.S. legal systems, challenges related to presenting and advocating the prosecution’s case in court, trial advocacy skills, and the importance of continuous professional development and training.

It should be recalled that on October 25, 2023, a professional dialogue entitled “Procedural Ethics” was also held in Yerevan with the participation of Armenui Amy Ashvanian. The event was organized by the Prosecutor General’s Office as part of the events commemorating the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia.
