As a result of the implementation of prosecutors’ motions, since December 2025 to date, 238 illegally constructed buildings and structures have been dismantled (demolished) on 81 land plots along the shore of Lake Sevan, below its absolute elevation mark. In addition, two contracts have been terminated by the “Sevan National Park” SNCO.

Following examinations conducted by the Department of State Interests Protection of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office of Gegharkunik region within the scope of their powers to bring claims for the protection of state interests, reports of crimes were submitted to the preliminary investigation bodies and criminal proceedings were initiated.
In response to citizens’ concerns as to why buildings are being dismantled when they could instead be provided to socially vulnerable families, we would like to clarify that areas of Lake Sevan below the absolute elevation mark of 1,905.0 metres are subject to flooding and form part of the coastal protection zone. Government Decision No. 1563-N of 18 December 2008 stipulates that, as a result of the rise in the level of Lake Sevan, the areas subject to flooding and inundation under the legislation of the Republic of Armenia include the area extending from the lake’s water boundary within “Sevan” National Park up to the absolute elevation mark of 1,905.0 metres.
