On August 28, 2026, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia, in cooperation with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and the YSU Legal Laboratory, announced the launch of the First Student Moot Court Competition on “Protection of State Interests of Armenia” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Artavazd Gevorgyan, former Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia.

The deadline for teams to submit applications for participation was set for September 16, 2026.

In total, 15 applications have been received to participate in the First Student Moot Court Competition on “Protection of Armenia’s State Interests.”

It should be recalled that Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan announced about the “Protection of the State Interests of Armenia” Student Moot Court Competition on July 1, 2026, during an event dedicated to the Day of the Prosecutor’s Office Employee and the 108th anniversary of the establishment of the Prosecutor’s Office. She stated: “The year 2026 has special significance for the 108-year-old Prosecutor’s Office: it is a year dedicated to the institutional memory and historical heritage. In 2026, we celebrate former Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Artavazd Gevorgyan’s 100th anniversary, whose work has left an important mark on the history of the Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia. We consider it important for young lawyers to become acquainted with the individuals whose professionalism and commitment to the state contributed to the development of the institution of the Prosecutor’s Office. To promote this awareness, this year we plan to organize a moot court competition on the topic of protecting state interests.”

Students of the faculties of law of higher education institutions in the Republic of Armenia will have the opportunity to test their knowledge and professional skills in a format resembling actual judicial proceedings by participating in the “Protection of the State Interests of Armenia” 1st Student Moot Court Competition.

The objective of the competition is to promote students’ legal research skills, their ability to identify legal issues and develop solutions, as well as to deepen their knowledge of the powers of the Prosecutor’s Office in the field of protecting state and community interests.

The competition also aims to foster a culture of integrity, professional ethics, and fair competition among students.

The competition consists of written and verbal stages. During the written stage, each team will present the positions of the Claimant and the Defendant, while the oral stage will be conducted through preliminary, semi-final, and final rounds.

Students in their 3rd and 4th years of study at the faculties of law of higher education institutions in the Republic of Armenia, including master’s and doctoral students, as well as students of institutions offering legal education, may participate in the competition. Each team may consist of 2 to 5 members, and a maximum of 4 teams may participate from each university.

As a result of the competition, prizes will be awarded to the winning team and the runner-up team. Individual and special professional awards will also be presented in the categories of “Best Written work” and “Best Speaker of the Competition.”
