Anna Vardapetyan met with the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Prosecutor's Office of the People's Republic of China in Shanghai

The Prosecutor General's Office informed that the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, Anna Vardapetyan has paid a working visit to the People's Republic of China to participate as a member of the IAP Executive Committee in the 61st Meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) to be held in Shanghai.

 

Today within the framework of her working visit, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, Anna Vardapetyan met with the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Prosecutor's Office of the People's Republic of China, Ying Yun.

 

Vahe Gevorgyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the People's Republic of China also participated in the meeting.

 

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia thanked her colleague for initiating the meeting and emphasized the importance of direct dialogue between them in terms of deepening cooperation in criminal justice and developing bilateral relations.

 

"The International Association of Prosecutors is an important platform for effective professional dialogue and strengthening bilateral ties, designed to facilitate cooperation between prosecutors' offices of different countries, including our own," said Anna Vardapetyan, touching upon the international and bilateral legal documents existing between the Republic of Armenia and the People's Republic of China, which regulate cooperation in criminal matters, including legal assistance and extradition procedures.

 

The RA Prosecutor General also cited cooperation statistics, according to which, from 2018 to 2025, the RA Prosecutor's Office sent to China 37 requests for legal assistance on various cases, including cybercrime, tax evasion, illicit trafficking in drugs and corruption. Two requests received by China during the same period were granted.

 

The parties emphasized the need to develop cooperation between law enforcement agencies within the framework of the strategic partnership established between the Republic of Armenia and the People's Republic of China in 2025. The Prosecutors General of the two countries emphasized the potential for developing cooperation between the Prosecutor's Offices of the Republic of Armenia and the People's Republic of China and, among other things, discussed practical issues related to requests for legal assistance.

 

Anna Vardapetyan and Ying Yong noted the importance of intensifying direct communication between the competent departments of the prosecutor's offices to more quickly resolve operational issues.

 

During the meeting, the need to develop a new cooperation program was discussed.

 

Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Prosecutor's Office of the People's Republic of China Ying Yong confirmed their willingness to develop cooperation, particularly in the fight against transnational crime, corruption, money laundering and cybercrime.

 

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence that such contacts will contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and increasing the effectiveness of cooperation.
