Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, delivered a speech during the Annual Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) that was organized today in the Republic of Singapore. The topic of the speech was “International-legal cooperation on criminal matters: the power of communication. Armenian perspective”.
Anna Vardapetyan thanked IAP presidency for the opportunity to deliver a speech on important issues in the scope of the plenary session and highlighted the importance of cooperation of law enforcement authorities in the fight against cybercrime, human trafficking, cross-border corruption and illicit assets. In this context the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia also attached importance to the operational and trust-based communication.
“In the “Lowcode” written by Mkhitar Gosh, medieval prominent figure, eminent Armenian thinker, legal scholar, theologian of 12th century, emphasized values that form the grounds in shaping Armenia’s legal tradition. Within the framework of the 221th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, by a unanimous decision of member states “Lawcode” has been included in the UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register. Gosh emphasized that justice flourishes when those who judge do not act alone but consult the wisdom of others, for many eyes see truth more clearly than one. I’m sure everyone in the room, will agree with me, that nowadays domestic efforts may no longer be enough to fight against the transnational crime. We have to be more proactive and cooperate more in the fight against the common enemy—crime”-emphasized the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia.
In her speech Anna Vardapetyan also referred to the importance of bilateral and multilateral treaties with foreign countries on criminal matters, forms of informal communication as well as ongoing trainings for prosecutors.
“Justice systems across the world are facing unprecedented challenges nowadays. Rapid technological advancements have transformed not only the nature of crime but also its speed - making the work of the law enforcement authorities increasingly complex. In this environment, the effective communication and timely access to knowledge are those essential strengths we, as prosecutors must rely on. Those strengths together form a powerful foundation for speedy and coordinated action across jurisdictions.
Let us use this platform not only to highlight challenges, but also to build bridges of cooperation acknowledging the power of communication”, concluded Anna Vardapetyan.
Let us highlight that about 450 participants from 80 countries arrived in the Republic of Singapore to participate in the Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors.
Let us remind that Anna Vardapetyan was elected as a candidate for a member of Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors during the 59th meeting of the Executive Committee, held in Buenos Aires on April 08, 2025. The member of the Executive Committee shall be elected during today’s General Meeting.
