The number of crimes registered in the Republic during the first quarter of 2024 decreased by 5.4%: Anna Vardapetyan referred to the crime dynamics

During today’s session of the Government, Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, referring to the crime dynamics in the Republic of Armenia, mentioned that:  

 

“Pursuant to the data provided by the information center of the Police during the first quarter of 2024, the number of cased registered in the Republic decreased by 1073 or 5.4 % compared with the same period of 2023. 18.818 crime cases were registered during the first quarter of 2024, while 19.891 cases during the same period of 2023.

 

During the first quarter of 2024, the majority of registered 18.818 crime cases—81.7% were minor (9738 cases or 51.7%) and medium gravity (5635 cases or 30%) crimes. During the first quarter of 2024 the number of grave crimes decreased by 8.2% (2773 cases during the first quarter of 2023 and 2545 cases during the first quarter of 2024) and the number of particularly grave crimes increased by 17.8% (246 cases during the first quarter of 2023 and 290 cases during the first quarter of 2024) compared with the first quarter of 2023.

 

34 murder cases excluding the number of cases of sudden death were registered during the first quarter of 2024 compared with 33 cases during the reporting period of the previous year.

 

Pursuant to the data provided by the Information Center of the Police, the number of illegal drug circulation decreased by 644 or 29.3% during the first quarter of 2024 (2198 cases during the first quarter of 2023 and 1554 cases during the first quarter of 2024).

 

The number of cases of smuggling of illicit drugs increased by 132 % during the first quarter of 2024 compared with the same period of 2023 (93 cases during the first quarter of 2023 and 216 cases during the first quarter of 2024).

 

The number of cases of traffic rules violation, that are criminally punishable, decreased by 284 or 23% during the first quarter of 2024 compared with the first quarter of 2023. The number of cases of fatal accidents also decreased, 90 fatal accidents were registered during the first quarter of 2023 and 68 cases during the first quarter of 2024, thus the number of cases decreased by 22 or 24.4%.

 

58 crime cases with the use of firearm were registered during the first quarter of 2024 against 40 cases during the reporting period of the previous year (94 crime cases with the use of firearm were registered during 2023 against 67 cases of the previous year (increased by 40,3%))”.
