U.S. Government supports the ongoing anti-corruption reforms in Armenia: Anna Vardapetyan met U.S. Under Secretary of State

Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia met the delegation led by Uzra Zeya, Under Secretary of State of the United States of America

 

Kristina Kvien, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to the Republic of Armenia also participated in the meeting.

 

Anna Vardapetyan greeted the U.S. Under Secretary of State in the Prosecutor General’s Office, highly appreciated the cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Armenia in several directions and highlighted that the meeting shall provide an opportunity to outline other fields of cooperation and shall contribute to the development and strengthening of cooperation between the law enforcement systems of two countries. 

 

In this context the Prosecutor General of the Republic thanked the competent authorities of the USA for the decision on confiscation of the property located in the USA and belonging to Gagik Khachatryan, former Minister of Finance of the Republic of Armenia. Let us remind that by its decision the U.S. Court approved the settlement agreement regarding the confiscation and sale (at the highest possible market value) of the private house located in Los Angeles, USA and belonging to the family of Gagik Khachatryan, former Minister of Finance of the Republic of Armenia, which is considered a property of a criminal origin.

 

Anna Vardapetyan presented the priorities of the Prosecutor’s Office—fight against corruption, confiscation of property of illicit origin, fight against drug trafficking, money laundering, torture and cybercrime, etc. to the U.S. Under Secretary of State. 

 

Uzra Zeya, the U.S. Under Secretary of State attached importance to the democratic reforms in Armenia and particularly to the works in the direction of fight against corruption and highlighted that the U.S. Government shall support the efforts of the Republic of Armenia in the fight against corruption.

 

RA Prosecutor General and the U.S. Under Secretary of State discussed other issue of mutual interest and stated that they are ready to continue cooperation in a number of directions.
