Today Anna Vardapetyan met with the delegation led by Richard Nephew, Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption, US Department of State. Kristen Fresonke, Team Lead of the Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption, US Department of State, Chip Laitinen, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the United States of America in Armenia and Alexis Haftvani Director of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Armenia also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting the works of the Prosecutor General’s Office in the field of fight against corruption as well as perspectives on the development of cooperation with USA in the fight against corruption were presented.
Anna Vardapetyan, particularly, referred to the works and the results thereof implemented by the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin of the Prosecutor General’s Office formed in 2020. In this context RA Prosecutor General informed her colleagues that 94 statements of claim are examined in the Anti-corruption court at the moment by which the Prosecutor General’s office requested to confiscate in favor of the Republic of Armenia 1050 immovable and 210 movable properties, participation in more than 280 legal persons and more than AMD 510 billion (about USD 1 billion 253 million). “We also have success stories—reconciliation agreements pursuant whereof 6 immovable 1 movable properties and about AMD 80 million was transferred to the Republic of Armenia,” highlighted the RA Prosecutor General, also stating that the total value of the reconciliation agreements amounted to about AMD 2 billion 200 million (about AMD 5 million 405 thousand).
Richard Nephew thanked Anna Vardapetyan for presenting tools and works aimed at the fight against corruption and highlighted that the purpose of his visit to Armenia is to support the fight against corruption.
Anna Vardapetyan highly appreciated the cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office with American partners and the support provided in the scope of that cooperation aimed at increasing professional competence of the prosecutors of the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin and the Department of Supervision over Legality of Pre-trial Proceedings in the RA Anti-Corruption Committee.
Anna Vardapetyan emphasized the willingness of the Prosecutor General’s Office with regard to the strengthening of cooperation. During the meeting they discussed issues of mutual interest.
