Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia met the delegation led by Fabian Salvioli, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence.

Anna Vardapetyan highly evaluated the importance of the mandate of UN Special Rapporteur and highlighted that she is of the same opinion with the statement he made during the 4th Global Forum “Against the Crime of Genocide”, pursuant to which heroization of war criminals cannot be in chime with democratic values. In this context, Anna Vardapetyan highlighted the necessity of properly addressing war crimes, providing an adequate assessment, and undertaking effective measures aimed at their prevention.

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia presented the evolution of the powers of the Armenian Prosecutor's Office to the EU's Special Rapporteur along with the toolkit aimed at the fight against corruption, protection of state (community) interests, confiscation of property of illicit origins, prevention of torture, as well as the criminal and legal fight against them.

Conceptual changes in the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes were also discussed in the scope of the powers of the Prosecutor’s Office as a result of which the criminal justice shall become more victim-oriented.
