On February 12, 2025, Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia visited the Prosecutor’s Office of Artashat community for summarizing the work implemented by the Prosecutor’s Office of Ararat region during 2024.
Yeghiazar Avagyan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the RA, Vardan Poghosyan, Prosecutor of Ararat region, Sedrak Tevonyan, Head of Ararat region, Mher Aprikyan, Secretary General of the Prosecutor’s Office, Heads of regional offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Security Service and Investigation Committee, prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office of the region also participated in the meeting.
Vardan Poghosyan, Prosecutor of Ararat region represented the report of works of the Prosecutor’s Office during 2024 and highlighted that 4375 criminal proceedings were initiated in the region during the previous year against 3960 criminal proceedings initiated during 2023. The prosecutors of the region rendered 1276 decisions on initiating public criminal prosecution during 2024, against 830 decisions rendered during 2023.
Final judicial acts were rendered under 3944 criminal proceedings (from 4375 criminal proceedings), 1031 criminal proceedings regarding 1068 persons were submitted to the court with signed indictments during 2024 (412 criminal proceedings regarding 440 persons during 2023).
559 cases regarding 608 persons were examined in the court during 2024 (228 cases regarding 249 persons during 2023).
Property damage in the amount of AMD 346 million 616 thousand (about USD 900 thousand) caused to the state and community was recovered during 2024. Based on the written motion of the prosecutor 3 immovable properties with the value of AMD 78 million 259 thousand was returned to the community (property damage in the amount of AMD 82 million 913 thousand was recovered during 2023, and property damage in the amount of AMD 5 million 630 thousand during 2022).
As a result of examination of the written motion submitted by the prosecutors during 2024, the competent authority ceased the operation of one company engaged in mining industry and in two cases administrative heads of different settlements were dismissed from the positions held.
During 2024, in the scope of the power of protection of state and community interests, 5 examinations are pending at the Prosecutor’s Office of Ararat region, and 4 claims were submitted to the competent court with the total cost of the claim amounting to AMD 105 million 185 thousand.
According to Vardan Petrosyan, Prosecutor of Ararat region for the purpose of preventing illegal sand extraction under the guise of fish farms necessary examinations were carried out, as a result whereof the Prosecutor’s Office submitted 9 proposals to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. The Prosecutor’s Office suggested also making amendments in Decision № 596-N of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated March 19, 2015.
RA Prosecutor General gave an assignment to the prosecutors to keep the field of state (community) interests protection in the center of their attention, and emphasized that within the framework of prosecutorial powers, it is necessary to follow up the return of the property and funds to the state and communities, so that they become a public good and serve public benefit purposes.
Anna Vardapetyan gave several assignments to the Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ararat region and other prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office and defined deadlines for the implementation thereof.
