The criminal case of July 11, 2004, separated from the one (criminal proceedings) regarding the commission of a terrorist act by Nairi Hunanyan and others on October 27, 1999 and terminated on November 11, 2004, was resumed on December 27, 2019. The ground for the resumption was the complaint of Anahit Bakhshyan — the victim's successor and hеr representative, addressed to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, whereby the latter asked to cancel the decision of November 11, 2004, made by the Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia on the termination of the criminal case proceedings.
During the resumed investigation, Nairi Hunanyan —the convict sentenced to life imprisonment, was questioned and testified about the circumstances of the incident.
The convicts Karen Hunanyan, Derenik Bejanyan and Ashot Knyazyan — members of the terrorist group, were also questioned during the investigation.
The personal files of the other members of the group — Eduard Grigoryan, Vram Galstyan and Hamlet Stepanyan, were seized from the relevant penitentiary institutions in order to clarify a number of questions regarding the causes of their deaths.
During the investigation, the package attached to the criminal case (criminal proceedings) was seized from the archives of the Prosecutor General's Office, the forensic volumes of the criminal case and the audio-recordings attached to the criminal case, as well as other files were seized from the archives of the Judicial Department, files regarding the case were seized from the RA Police and other departments. In the framework of the preliminary investigation, video-recording examinations were appointed for the seized audio-video recordings, and their conclusions were obtained.
24 witnesses, 4 convicts were questioned, 1 face-to-face interrogation was carried out, within the terms of the criminal case (proceedings) during the period of 2019-2024.
Instructions have been given to different operative units to clarify various issues regarding the circumstances of the incident.
Various documents and electronic media, including video-recordings, attached to the materials of the criminal proceedings were examined.
According to the Prosecutor General’s decision of February 14, 2024, the Investigative committee was assigned to continue the preliminary investigation in criminal proceedings.
The investigation is ongoing.
