By the invitation of the American Chamber of Commerce in Armenia, on April 11, 2024, Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, participated in the conference entitled “Women of influence: the perspective of women’s role in the society”.

Kristina Kvien Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of USA to the Republic of Armenia, Tatevik Stepanyan, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Elina Margaryan, Chairman of the Chamber, representatives of state, public and international organizations participated in the conference, which took place in “Matenadaran” research institute of ancient Manuscripts named after M. Mashtots. 

The strategic approaches regarding the promotion of women in the labor market was presented during the conference, afterwards panel discussions on the topics: “Women in the management system” and “Women in business” took place. 

During the first panel discussion Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia referred to the priority of education, involvement and promotion of women in the Prosecutor’s Office as well as importance of involvement of women in the management positions, etc.

In this context Anna Vardapetyan mentioned that she faced the problem of absence of women in the management positions on the first day of assuming the position, “A lot of women in the field of the civil service, several women in the position of the prosecutor and a few women in the management positions of the Prosecutor’s Office. To solve the problem, we involved smart, hardworking and professional women in the staff. We started to look for women with such qualities both in the system of the Prosecutor’s Office and in the educational fields. Today we have about 100 woman prosecutors among 400 prosecutors. I have 5 deputies, and 2 of them are women. The number of women prosecutors appointed to the positions in the order of official promotion also increased. Only 15 women were appointed to the position of the prosecutor in the order of official promotion during 2017-2021 (5 years), and 11 appointments took place only during 2023”.

During the discussion in question and answer format the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia highlighted that her destiny is one of overcoming and not opposing and spoke about different women of different periods and fields, who were brave enough to recognize the reality of their birthplace, disagree with that reality, not assimilate with that environment and become the hope for that reality and environmental change.
