On February 23, 2024, Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia paid a working visit to the Prosecutor’s Office of Vayots Dzor region for summarizing the works implemented during 2023.

Kolya Mikayelyan, governor of Vayots Dzor region, Grigor Elizbaryan, Deputy Prosecutor General, Military Prosecutor, Heads of the regional departments of the National Security Service, Investigative committee, Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Military Police of the Ministry of Defence, prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office of the region, etc. participated in the meeting.

 Aspurak Avetisyan, Prosecutor of the region, presented to the RA Prosecutor General the works implemented by the Prosecutor’s Office of Vayots Dzor region during 2023 and related to the examination of corruption and other crimes, pursuing a charge in the court, protection of state (community) interests, examination of applications submitted by the citizens, etc.. 

 During 2023, 420 cases of crimes were recorded in the Vayots Dzor region (422 cases during 2022). 94 cases of crimes against property (137 cases during 2022) and 74 cases of crimes against the state power (47 cases during 2022) were recorded in the region during the previous year.    

The number of crimes against human decreased by 4.4%, the number of crimes against public security and public health increased by 8.5%, and the number of economic crimes increased by 0.7%. 

2 cases of intentionally causing grave harm to health was recorder during 2023, where 3 similar cases were recorded during 2022.

15 cases of burglary were recorded during 2022, however 5 such cases were recorded during 2023, the disclosure rate amounted to 40%.

1 case of bribery at elections, 1 case of appropriation of entrusted property through the abuse of official powers or the influence conditioned thereby, 1 case of money laundering and 10 cases of abuse of official powers by an official were recorded during 2023.

64 criminal proceedings with indictments against 67 individuals were submitted to the court during 2023 (24 case (proceedings) against 78 individuals during 2022).

 42 criminal cases against 46 individuals were examined and completed in the First Instance Court of General jurisdiction during 2023. No acquittal judgment was rendered during 2023.

 Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia gave an assignment to the Prosecutor of the Region on activating the examination of cases in the fields of the protection of state (community) interests and corruption crimes.

After summarizing the works implemented by the Prosecutor’s Office of the region, the works implemented by Ararat Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office during 2023 were presented to Anna Vardapetyan, RA Prosecutor General.

Gevorg Khalatyan, Military Prosecutor of the Garrison informed that 253 cases were recorded in the military units and service areas of Ararat Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office during 2023 (592 cases during 2022): The number decreased by 339 or 57.,2%. 231 cases from 592 comprised features of alleged crime. 128 cases of crimes from 231 were of military nature and 103 cases were other crimes.

6 cases resulting in death were recorded during 2023 (9 cases during 2022) as a result whereof 1 civilian and 5 serviceman died (4 cases were related to the service, 1 case was not related to the service).

145 criminal proceedings with indictments regarding 199 individuals were submitted to the court during 2023 (49 criminal cases (proceedings) regarding 60 individuals during 2022).

Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia discussed several issues related to joint works directed at the maintenance of discipline and statutory relations between servicemen, as well as prevention of crimes in the army with the RA Military Prosecutor, Prosecutor of the Garrison of the region and colleges of the Military Police of the Ministry of Defence.
