Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan presented three petitions to the President of the National Assembly for giving consent to initiate criminal prosecution against the former Minister of Defense of the RA

On January 20, Anna Vardapetyan, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, presented three petitions to the president of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan for giving consent to initiate criminal prosecution against the former Minister of Defense of the RA, the head of the fraction “Armenia” of the National Assembly according to the Article 108, Point 1 of the Constitutional Law “Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly”. In accordance with the demand of the same point also the draft decision of the National Assembly about giving consent to initiate criminal prosecution against the Deputy was attached to the petition.

 

According to the factual data obtained through the first criminal proceedings, the former Minister of Defense of the RA, abusing his official position, has wasted significantly large amount of money (two cases), also depending on the personal interest and the group interests, has used his official position on the contrary to the service interests, which has entailed to the heavy consequences (two cases). According to the factual data obtained through the second criminal proceedings, the former Minister of Defense of the RA, being a public official and having group interests, has used his official position on the contrary to the service interests, also hasn’t done his service duties, which has entailed to heavy consequences, as well as has grabbed a large amount of property in the manner of waste. According to the factual data obtained through the third criminal proceedings, the Defense of Minister of the RA has grabbed a large amount of property in the manner of waste.

 

According to Article 96 of the Constitution of the RA the criminal prosecution against the Deputy can be initiated by the consent of the National Assembly.

 

Notification: A person accused of a crime shall be considered innocent until his or her guilt is proven in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code by a court verdict which has legally entered into force.
