Electoral bribery is a crime punishable by real imprisonment — inevitable and severe: Prosecutor General

07/05/2026

“Do not believe anyone who promises that even in the event of a conviction, the sentence will be conditional,” stated the RA Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan today at the National Assembly and added that in the fight against electoral bribery and fraud, the law enforcement system — and the Prosecutor’s Office in particular — is strict and consistent.

“Any attempt to distort a person’s free expression of will will be met with a harsh legal response,” the Prosecutor General declared, reminding that electoral bribery is a criminal offense punishable by actual imprisonment, and that the punishment is inevitable and severe. Conditional sentences are not applied for such acts. This is the position of the Court of Cassation of Armenia.
