On November 6, 2025, within the framework of her working visit to the Italian Republic, Anna Vardapetyan, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, met with Maurizio Block, Military Prosecutor General at the Supreme Court of Cassation of the Italian Republic.
The meeting was also attended by Vladimir Karapetyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Italian Republic; Grigor Elizbaryan, Military Prosecutor of the Republic of Armenia, Deputy Prosecutor General and Yeghiazar Avagyan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia.
Anna Vardapetyan expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and, as a result of the agreement reached in 2024 in Armenia, emphasized the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on Enhancing Cooperation between the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia and the Office of the Military Prosecutor General at the Supreme Court of Cassation of the Italian Republic.
“The effective work of the Military Prosecutor’s Office is of exceptional importance in a democratic society. We are taking measures to strengthen and further develop the skills of military prosecutors. Regular training courses are conducted on Articles 2 (right to life) and 3 (prohibition of torture) of the European Convention on Human Rights, as well as Article 5 (right to liberty and security). The effective protection of the rights enshrined in these articles is of particular importance from the perspective of strengthening human rights within the armed forces,” noted the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, emphasizing the importance of constructive professional dialogue and cooperation among military prosecutors on issues such as military justice and discipline, and the specific features of prosecutorial supervision over the legality of investigations in military cases. Anna Vardapetyan also expressed her gratitude to Maurizio Block, Italy’s Military Prosecutor General, for joining the Editorial Board of the “Legality” scientific-practical journal of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues related to deepening the directions of cooperation.
