The Prosecutor General of Armenia received the Deputy Prosecutor General of Austria

Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan today received Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Austria Alexandra Ramusch at the Prosecutor's Office in Dilijan.

 

Alexandra Ramusch arrived in Armenia to participate in the two-day international high-level conference entitled “Independence and Impartiality of Prosecutors in the Context of Prosecution of Crimes Committed by Public Officials: Corruption and Money Laundering”, launched on July 1, 2025, in Dilijan, on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the establishment of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia and the Day of Employee of the Prosecutor's Office.

 

The Prosecutor General noted that Armenia and Austria have a wide range of instruments regulating international cooperation in criminal proceedings: CoE Convention on Extradition, CoE Convention on the Transfer of Proceedings in Criminal Matters, CoE Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters, etc., which provide an opportunity to effectively cooperate with each other.

 

In this context, Anna Vardapetyan expressed her gratitude for fulfilling about 80% of requests for legal assistance in criminal proceedings addressed to the competent authorities of Austria over the past 4 years and suggested the colleagues continuing joint efforts aimed at the seizure and further management of property acquired in Austria with funds illegally transferred from Armenia.

 

Alexandra Ramuch expressed her gratitude for the invitation and warm welcome, conveyed to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia the greetings and best wishes of the Prosecutor General of Austria, and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and relations with Armenia.

 

In this context, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Austria emphasized the importance of discussing the issue of prosecutorial independence within the framework of the Conference, presented the work being carried out in this area in Austria, and expressed interest in the legislative regulations and institutional approaches ensuring the independence of prosecutors in Armenia.

 

It should be recalled that the Conference is organized within the framework of the projects “Support to the Justice Reform in Armenia” and “Enhancing National Capacities for Effective Prevention and Fight Against Economic Crime in Armenia”, co-financed by of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, implemented by the Council of Europe.
