As compensation for the damage caused to the state, AMD 327.5 million will be confiscated in favor of the Republic of Armenia from V.A., who realized illegal gold mining, as well as a state duty of AMD 16.3 million. On October 2, 2024, the claim filed by the Prosecutor’s Office was fully granted by the Anti-Corruption Court's decision.
Under the criminal cases (proceedings initiated) initiated on November 27, 2017 and February 1, 2018, merged into a single proceeding, it was found that in 2017, V.A., a resident of the city of Vardenis, realized illegal gold mining in the territory of Vardenis community of Gegharkunik region in violation of the rules of subsoil use and protection, as a result of which the state incurred a loss of AMD 327.5 million.
On December 27, 2018, the criminal case against V.A. was submitted to the competent court. V.A. was accused of violating subsoil use and protection regulations.
On January 29, 2020, based on the expiration of the statute of limitations, the court decided to terminate the criminal prosecution against V.A .and dismiss the criminal case.
On March 20, 2020, the Senior Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of Gegharkunik region submitted a claim to the court demanding to confiscate AMD 327.5 million from V.A. in favor of the Republic of Armenia.
Pursuant to the Anti-corruption court’s decision of December 13, 2023, the claim was partially granted and it was decided to confiscate AMD 100 million from V.A..
On January 16, 2024, the Prosecutor filed an appeal against the decision of the Anti-Corruption Court, which was granted and the case was submitted for a new examination. As a result of the new examination, on October 2, 2024, the Prosecutor’s claim was completely granted by the Anti-Corruption Court’s decision, and it was decided to confiscate AMD 327.5 million from V.A. in favor of the Republic of Armenia as damage caused to the state, as well as a state duty of AMD 16.3 million.
