Today, Anna Vardapetyan, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia at her invitation has received Ladislav Hamran, the President of the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust).
The meeting was also attended by Tigran Balayan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the Kingdom of Belgium, Head of Mission of Armenia to the European Union and Vassilis Maragos, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and others.
Anna Vardapetyan has greeted the President of Eurojust at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia and stated that the second meeting during a year attests to the readiness of developing effective cooperation and further partnership between two agencies. In this context the General Prosecutor of the country has given importance to the Agreement signed in Brussels on April 5, 2024 on “the Cooperation between the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust) and the Authorities of the Republic of Armenia
Competent for Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters” which was ratified on April 10 by the RA National Assembly. The Agreement gives opportunity to second a Liaison Prosecutor to Eurojust. The representation of the Prosecutor’s Office to Eurojust will make it possible to operatively connect to the contact points of EU member-states and third countries, as well as provide effective international and legal cooperation in the frame of criminal proceedings initiated in the Republic of Armenia.
“This is our latest step toward the European Union. I believe that in the scope of Eurojust the Agreement will develop the cooperation between the law-enforcement agencies of the Republic of Armenia and foreign countries in the fight against organized crime, terrorism, money laundering and a range of transnational crimes”, Anna Vardapetyan underlined and added that the Working Arrangement to be signed that day will bring Armenia close to the full execution of the provisions of the Agreement.
The President of Eurojust thanked the RA Prosecutor General for the warm reception and mentioned: “Armenia will be given “the keys” to enter the Eurojust with the Working Arrangement to be signed today”. Armenia is our valuable counterpart and by joining Eurojust it gives a very important message that it adheres to the principles of the rule of law.
Anna Vardapetyan has highly appreciated the cooperation affirmed in the scope of the Agreement in the result of arrangements made by the diplomatic representatives in the European Union countries and thanked the European Union Delegation to Armenia.
