Anna Vardapetyan met the students of “Article 3” Human rights school

On July 7, 2024, Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, met the students of “Article 3” Human rights school (“For equal rights” educational center NGO).

 

During the meeting the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia presented the priorities of the Prosecutor’s Office, highlighting the following fields—confiscation of illicit property, protection of the state and community interest and fight against corruption.

 

Referring to the works implemented by the Prosecutor General’s Office in the scope of the function of confiscation of the property of illicit origin, Anna Vardapetyan mentioned that 108 statements of claim were submitted to the court up to now. “In the scope of those statements of claim we request the confiscation of the following property in favour of the Republic of Armenia—about 1150 immovable and 225 movable properties and shares in more than 305 legal persons. The total cost of the submitted statements of claim amounted to AMD 559 billion 687 million,” mentioned the Prosecutor General of the Republic adding that the Prosecutor General’s Office has concluded 6 settlement agreements in the scope of its function of confiscation of property of illicit origin since 2023. Pursuant to them 7 immovable properties and 1 movable property with the total value of AMD 4 billion 118 million was transferred under the ownership of the Republic of Armenia, about AMD 609 million shall also be transferred under the ownership of the Republic of Armenia, wherefrom AMD 270 million has already been paid.

 

During the discussion, which continued in the format of question and answer, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia answered student’s questions regarding constitutional powers of the Prosecutor’s Office, requirements for the prosecutors, including integrity, the issues related to the “delayed justice, legal grounds of confiscation of property of illicit origin, crimes against military service, etc.”.

 

Gayane Abrahamyan, Chairman of the NGO thanked Anna Vardapetyan for the meeting and highlighted that the meeting was not only educational for them, but it also broke many stereotypes.
