The prosecutors participated in the training on the requests on legal assistance under the criminal proceedings organized by the US colleagues

On April 16, the prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office participated in the training on the requests on legal assistance under the criminal proceedings, organized in the scope of visit of the delegation of the Office of International Affairs of U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of Legal Advisor of U.S. Department of State. 

 

Louise Manukian, Head of the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Monica Jacobsen, Attorney Advisor of the Office of Legal Advisor of the U.S. Department of State, Jason Carter, Associate Director of the Office of International Affairs of the U.S. Department of Justice, Zareen Iqbal and Ann Pings, Trial Attorneys of the Office of International Affairs of the U.S. Department of Justice, Arsen Ayvazyan, Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Mushegh Babayan, Deputy Chairman of the Anti-corruption committee, Alexis Haftvani, INL director of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office  as well as investigators of Investigative and Anti-corruption Committees participated in the event.

 

Louise Manukian, Head of the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office thanked the colleagues from the United States, the representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, for organization of a discussion on legal cooperation under criminal proceedings in the fight against transnational crime.

 

According to the Head of the Department, legal cooperation plays a crucial role in the effective investigation of criminal proceedings and prosecutorial control in the scope of the fight against transnational crime. “Taking into consideration the developments in transnational crime, the law enforcement agencies try to undertake more rapid and effective counteraction measures. In particular, international-legal cooperation is particularly important in cases, where the evidence, property of illicit origin, witnesses, victims and alleged offenders are in another country,” highlighted Louise Manukian and stressed out that the training and the discussions will contribute to the development of international-legal field and improvement of bilateral cooperation.
