On January 19, 2023, at 05:15, a formal telephone notice was received in the Vardenis Police Department from RA MD N military unit that on the same day about 01:30 a fire broke out inside the building due to lighting with gasoline the stove inside the building located at Azat village of Gegharkunik marz.

As a result of the fire 15 compulsory military servicemen died. Six compulsory military servicemen and one officer of the same military unit with bodily injuries were transferred to Gegharkunik garrison hospital at 02:00.

The documents, which were prepared on the basis of the fact that the elements of the alleged crime under part 4 of article 532 of the RA Criminal Code existed, were submitted to the 5th Garrison Investigative Unit Of General Military Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia to decide on the further course of the case. 

Prosecutors of Sevan Military Prosecutor’s Office as well as investigators of 5th Garrison Investigative Unit of General Military Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia went to the site.

Grigor Elizbaryan, RA Military Prosecutor, Deputy Prosecutor General of the RA went to the scene.

Necessary possible operations were carried out at the scene, measures were taken to find out all the circumstances of the case.
